If you just want to get out of pain or restore normal spinal motion, this usually only takes 4-6 weeks and at that time you can stop care until you have another episode. If you want to get out of pain, prevent degenerative osteo arthritis, balance your nervous system, and maintain optimal spinal motion, you should receive chiropractic care on a periodic basis throughout your life.\u00a0 What is a periodic basis?\u00a0 Research suggests that every getting adjusted every 2 weeks will keep your spinal joints moving and assist in maintaining optimal spinal health.<\/p>\n

Chiropractic Glossary of Terms<\/h5>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Adjustment:<\/strong>\u00a0A gentle, specific, manual force that is applied by a doctor of chiropractic with the goal of repositioning a misaligned vertebra and restoring the normal bio mechanics of that joint. As a chiropractor, we are trained to correct a subluxation using the adjustment.<\/p>\n

Pinched Nerve:<\/strong>\u00a0Pinched nerves are when a nerve gets trapped by a bone, disc, or cartilage, causing inflammation, which usually results in numbness, tingling, burning, spasm, and weakness. Most pinched nerves resulting in pain or numbness in the arms or legs are a result of a subluxation in the spine. Chiropractors are trained to evaluate and correct the subluxation causing a pinched nerve.<\/p>\n

Sciatica:<\/strong>\u00a0Pinched nerves coming out of the lumbar spinal region in the back (L4, L5, S1 nerve levels-sciatic nerve), usually caused by a subluxation of the spine. Pelvic misalignment can also cause spasm to the muscle which pinches the sciatic nerve, resulting in sciatic pain that travels down the buttock and hamstring. True sciatic pain from a disc problem typically causes a burning pain down the back of the leg past the knee and into the foot. Chiropractors are trained to evaluate and treat sciatic pain.<\/p>\n

Subluxation:<\/strong>\u00a0A chiropractic subluxation complex is a dysfunctional, bio mechanical spinal segment (lesion) that alters optimal neurological function, which can lead to neuromusculoskeletal and visceral disorders.<\/p>\n

Vertebral Subluxation Complex is identified by:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • a loss of normal position and movement of spinal vertebra<\/li>\n
  • irritation to delicate nerve tissue<\/li>\n
  • muscles that are either spasmed (tight) or atrophied (weak), resulting from structural imbalance and nerve irritation<\/li>\n
  • localized inflammation and heat<\/li>\n
  • degeneration occurring over time causing other organs and systems of the body to lose their proper function<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
