Narcotic painkillers, anti-anxiety drugs, and antidepressants are also notoriously over prescribed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According\nto data from IMS Health, a whopping 48.4 million prescriptions for ADHD\nstimulants were written in 2011, <strong>up 39 percent from 2007<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;As\nreported by CNN Health:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cPrescription\nADHD medications like Adderall, Ritalin, and Vyvanse are becoming increasingly\npopular for overworked and overscheduled college students \u2014 who haven\u2019t been\ndiagnosed with ADHD\u2026 <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Some\nresearchers estimate about 30 percent of students use stimulants non-medically.<\/em><\/strong><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One 2008\nstudy,&nbsp;which interviewed 1,800 college students, reported that 81 percent\nof them perceived illicit use of ADHD drugs as being completely harmless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is\ndespite the fact that these drugs are <strong>Schedule II substances&nbsp;\u2014\njust like cocaine, methamphetamines, and morphine<\/strong>. As such, drugs\nlike as Ritalin, Vyvanse, Strattera, and Adderall have very real health risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accidental\noverdose and\/or acute adverse effects are also quite possible, as recent\nstatistics demonstrate. According to a reportpublished just last year, ADHD\ndrugs were responsible for nearly 23,000 emergency room visits in 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This\nis a more than 400 percent increase in ER visits due to adverse reactions to\nADHD medication in a mere six years.<\/strong> The increase was most dramatic among 18- to 25-year-olds.
