Auto accidents while in Uber
Have you been involved in auto accidents while in uber? In the past week, I have seen 2 different patients who have been involved in these types of car accidents. Fortunately, in both cases they were not at fault so they were covered by the drivers of the other vehicles and Uber (through James River Insurance) as a last resort. But what neither of them knew was that if the accident was their fault they would not have been covered under their own auto insurance.
It is a little secret in the auto insurance word that unless you have a separate rider on your auto policy covering you while driving for Uber you are NOT covered. In fact right now there are only a few insurance companies that I know of that even offer this option. So if you drive for Uber please contact your agent and ask if you are covered before you get a surprise denial of a claim in the event that you are involved in an accident.
