Chronic pain epidemic

The chronic pain epidemic has a greater impact on Americans health than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. This can relate to neck and back pain, headaches and neurogenic pain. These conditions are seen daily in the chiropractic office. Research studies show the effects of chronic pain and its relationship to work disabilities. You may have experienced some or all of these symptoms: low energy, poor concentration, depression, poor sleep, and decreased pleasure in life. A common approach for chronic pain is pain relievers. Whether you choose an over the counter or opioid pain killer to comfort your pains, all are taken with side-effects. Chronic pain can lead to chronic use of pain medication, which can also lead to addiction. Therefore, the same drugs used to try and reduce pain may also cause more problems down the road.

Pain is a necessary feedback mechanism, signaling the body of an underlying condition, a burden from negative lifestyle factors or even emotional trauma. Treating chronic pain effectively should involve seeking the source of the pain and addressing the “cause”. Chiropractic is a non-invasive, non-drug approach to determining the balance of your spine and nervous system. Since the nervous system controls and coordinates every cell, tissue and organ of the body its’ balance is a logical, efficient start to discovering the cause of a problem. At Reed Chiropractic, we see patients daily get relief from acute and chronic pain naturally.

A multifaceted approach to reduce chronic pain can also include the utilization of massage, acupuncture, nutrition evaluation, exercise therapy and postural re-education. Dietary changes can impact the level of your pain. These changes should include: Reduce and limit processed foods, grains and sugars, increase high-quality omega-3 fats, and optimize vitamin D production. You can also help reduce inflammation with safe, natural and easy to obtain foods or herbs, such as ginger, curcumin, boswellia and bromelain.

At Reed Chiropractic we are trying to do our part in reducing the chronic pain epidemic. If you would like more information on how you can use Chiropractic Care to reduce pain, please contact us.
