The Chiropractic story by Dr. Chad Hood started with a desire to be healthy early on in his childhood. It began from two individuals for me who led a life that seemed worth living. My aunt and uncle are those two. They both graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in the early 1970’s. They have practiced in Fresno, California since. Their example to me wasn’t the ‘fine art of chiropractic adjusting’, or their deep knowledge of the ‘science of chiropractic’, but equally important I saw their expression of what it meant to be a chiropractor. They lived the meaning in the way their character projected to me.

Thru my aunt and uncle I saw chiropractic being expressed as giving, loving and serving. I saw people not seeking to be the healer, but assisting a living being to allow the “one that made the body, heal the body”. I saw truth in a way that each individual heals from the “inside-out”. This is contrary to an “outside-in” paradigm that many people grow to understand. Chiropractic is a fundamental assistant to allowing the body a more balanced environment to function at an optimal level. So chiropractic, for me, is a way of life, a journey and a gift-to live and share the right we all have to be healthy. My aunt and uncle continue in this living example. As I grew older, and fluttered thru the teenage years, my focus remained on the example I hoped to be. Thru those fragile years I had several other mentors who guided me and supported the ways I would eventually follow-thru with my desire to become a chiropractor.

My closest example influencing me daily is my father. He is not a chiropractor, but he displays the characteristics of giving, loving and serving as well as working hard. My father worked in business management, but he also has a passion in woodworking. He created many beautiful and useful pieces of furniture. From watching and participating in this work I came to more of the realization how much I enjoy working with my hands. Of course “chiro” means “of the hands”. So becoming a chiropractor had another application in the ways of my youth. Chiropractors use their hands (most often) in a useful method to adjust the spine and joints of the body. I would get to love and serve with the use of my hands.

There are many professions that serve using the hands-to build, create, ease tensions, open doors and on and on. This is where my next mentor worked fittingly into the path I was on to becoming a chiropractor. Since we did not live close to my aunt and uncle who where chiropractors, my parents found a wonderful chiropractor near our home. Dr Brandt was definitely a man with high moral standards and of good virtue. He was a towering man, intimidating of sorts, until he smiled and welcomingly shook your hand. His chiropractic office was always busy helping people. The wait was inevitable. Although, when it came to my turn he gave all attention to the present moment of adjusting my spine.

His work, along with his hands, was precise and always seemed to get done just what was needed-almost as though his hands were being guided. Well, I have come to understand that guiding power which created us can also move us and guide us to be intentional with what we do in life and with our life as a whole. This is what chiropractic term INNATE. So through these and other fine examples in my life and in the chiropractic profession, my INNATE Being has precisely and accurately led me to become a chiropractor. Becoming a chiropractor was just the beginning of this most amazing journey of giving, loving and serving people. I am grateful for the journey thru life as a chiropractor.

So that is the chiropractic story by Dr. Chad Hood and we are lucky to have him here at Reed Chiropractic.
