Best Sleep Position?
I am often asked, what is the best sleep position. In my opinion, it is going to be on your back. Sleeping on your back promotes decompression of the lower spinal discs and helps to maintain the normal cervical curve. Although I do think back sleeping is the best sleep position, I also do recommend side sleeping as a second best. However, if you have any shoulder or hip issues side sleeping can be aggravating to those areas.
Back Sleeping keys
- Use a small pillow under your knees to keep them bent
- Use a small soft pillow under your neck but your head should be almost touching the bed.
Side Sleeping Keys
- Use a queen or body pillow to separate your legs.
- Do Not sleep with your arm over your head or under your neck pillow.
- Use a firm pillow that is thick enough to fill the space between your neck and shoulder.
- Keep a neutral spine, no twisting.
