Transform Holiday Eating with Proper Enzymes
In this blog we will discuss how to transform Holiday eating with proper enzymes.
What is an Enzyme?
- Enzyme are proteins found within all living cells. Enzymes participate in chemical reactions in the body to help support life. Enzymes produced in the body help with important tasks, such as, building muscle, breaking down food in the digestive process and destroying toxins.
- Enzymes in quality whole foods can be seen at work on a daily basis. For example, take a green banana, put it on a windowsill for a couple days. It turns yellow and ripens. That’s enzymes working.
- The job of enzymes can be affected by heat, disease, or harsh chemical conditions which cause the enzyme to change shape. When this happens, an enzyme does not work anymore. This affects the body processes that the enzyme helped to support.
“Without enzymes, seeds would not sprout, fruit would not ripen, leaves would not change color, and you would not exist.”– D’Raye
All living organisms require enzymes for proper digestive system function. Three main types of digestive enzymes are produced in the pancreas. These digestive enzymes work to break down carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Respectively they are called amylase, protease and lipase.
Dr. Royal Lee stated, Enzymes “… are the most important unit in the human body, because every chemical change that takes place to repair tissue or to assimilate food involves the activity of enzymes. Without enzyme activity there is no life. No plant or animal can live without the activity of its enzymes.”
A majority of the time it is possible to help keep digestive enzymes at optimal levels by eating a whole food, nutrient-dense diet and maintaining healthy physical activity.
During the holiday season personal diet may include more over cooked, unhealthy foods with no enzymes to do their job and help support digestion. At times this can overwhelm the body and create symptom or even illness. Supplementation of a quality digestive enzyme complex will provide support to the digestive process as well.
Additionally, support the communication system of the body, the nervous system, which tells it when and how much of each enzyme necessary for every bite of food. Have your spine checked regularly by your Chiropractor for proper nervous system health.
