Can Chiropractic help Allergies?

So Can Chiropractic Care Help With Allergies? In our most recent blog, we discussed allergies and how the body physiologically responds to allergens. We provided some natural support you can use to help the body in these processes. As Doctors of Chiropractic we do not treat any specific condition. We do work to identify vertebral subluxations which affect and have an effect on the entire body through the nervous system. By reducing vertebral subluxations a Doctor of Chiropractic can have an impact on:

Strengthening the immune system. Misalignments in the spine—particularly the neck—can disrupt the brain’s lines of communication with the rest of the body. Irritation in the upper cervical joint, for example, may compromise immunity and amplify allergic symptoms. By manipulating the joints and soft tissue, a chiropractor can restore the body’s alignment and re-open essential pathways between the brain and spine.

Regulation of stress hormones. Many allergy sufferers also have weakened adrenal glands, which means their bodies have a harder time moderating allergic reactions. Since the adrenal glands are fed directly by spinal nerves, a properly aligned spine can help regulate the amount of cortisol the body produces. This can help mitigate the severity of allergy symptoms.

Support to the respiratory system. Like the immune system, the respiratory system depends on an unimpeded flow of information to and from the brain. Chiropractic care keeps the pathways open, fortifying the respiratory system to better withstand allergic attacks.

Recommended dietary and lifestyle changes. Certain foods and other factors in the environment can either ease or exacerbate allergy symptoms. A doctor of chiropractic can recommend changes that boost the patient’s health and comfort.

A study published in 2004 showed amazing immune-boosting results for a group that started getting spinal adjustments. So this would be one way that in theory that chiropractic can help with allergies. In this particular study, 1,028 people had some form of allergies (the most common was atopic dermatitis and bronchial asthma). X-Ray evidence and physical exams proved that 98% of these allergy patients had remarkably similar vertebral misalignments in their mid-back. Over 88% of the people with dermatitis who received consistent spinal adjustments showed massive improvement in skin itching and over 71% showed improvement in overall skin condition. Compare that to 0% improvement of the patients who did not receive adjustments.

Vertebral subluxation consist of components to include lack of proper spinal joint motion, spinal joint inflammation, muscular tension/spasms around the involved joint, swelling and resultant nerve irritation may include pain. Pain may not always be present with the vertebral subluxation complex. So you can have vertebral subluxation, not be in pain, but still have a nervous system under stress.

Nerves can be stretched, pinched irritated, etc. without pain. If a nerve is “pinched” and it is the nerve communicating to your heart, can your heart be functioning at 100%. NO! And if your heart is not functioning at 100% on a regular basis due to nerve pressure limiting the

communication between the brain and heart, what will result? The heart can become dysfunctional and even reach the state of disease.

Have you ever heard of or known someone receiving a “clean bill of health” through recent medical examination, then dying of a heart attack within a short time of their check-up? This has even occurred to professional athletes known to be in top shape. Vertebral subluxation, like heart disease, is often termed a “silent killer”.

Chiropractic is the detection and correction of vertebral subluxations as it relates to the interference of the body’s connection between the nervous system and all other cells, organs and tissues of the body. Your body will function better without interference. Get checked for vertebral subluxations. Get your family checked; tell your friends, loved ones, neighbors and others to get checked-they will thank you for it.

Based on the research and information we currently have, it looks like chiropractic can help with allergies.
