Working from Home Health Tips

In today’s blog I would like to address some of my favorite working from home health tips. Many of you are now working from home, some by choice and others by mandate. For most of you this is a completely new way of life and can be a struggle. Some of the most common struggles are that you had a nice desk with two monitors and everything was ergonomic and now you are working at your kitchen table or island with a hard chair or stool. Others are struggling with working on laptops from your couch. I have also been hearing from a lot of patients that they are just not getting up and moving as much as they were before. The gyms are closed or I hear things like “I used to walk down the hall and use the restroom or get a drink a few times a day and now I don’t even do that.” I hear patients talking about no real windows in their home office or living room.

All of theses issues are small if the change was just for a few days, but we are going on 30 days now. And with no end in sight for a lot of people, you need to correct this fast before your health is gets compromised. I am going to lay out my best working from home health tips to solve most of these issue and most of them can be fixed immediate and for less than $20.

Workstation Tips

  • Problem – Working from laptop
  • Solution – Put a shoe box or package box under the laptop to bring it to eye level. Use external mouse and keyboard. $20.
  • Problem – Desk or Table too high
  • Solution – Raise chair or stool if you can and put a box or step under your feet so they still touch the floor

Movement at Home TIps

  • Problem – Lack of movement and no sunlight
  • Solution – Get up every hour and walk out of your house, walk around the perimeter and pick two weeds. Come in the back door and get back to work.
  • Problem – Feeling like your days just run together
  • Solution – Get up everyday at the same time, take a shower, get dressed and do you normal work routine (except for hair and dress clothes, take advantage of that perk) and start work at the same time, take a scheduled lunch break and end at the same time every day if possible. Another words get on a routine and keep it.
  • Problem – Lack of gym time or exercise
  • Solution – Try something new, yoga, foundation training, body weight resistance training, flexibility training, Tia Chi, or even something like bicycling. On our website at reedchiropractic.com we have many videos to watch for in home exercises primarily for posture and general spinal health.

Manage Stress at Home

  • Problem – No place to go to blow off stress
  • Solution – Go to a quiet room and just breathe, my personal favorite quick stress relief is the Breathe2Relax app. It will take you through 14 cycles of deep breathing and by the end you are recharged and ready to get back to work. The app is free or you can find it under the breathing videos on my website.

During these difficult times we need to do the best we can to continue with routines and stay healthy. The buzz word of “stay health” currently has become to mean that you staying 6 feel apart, practice social distancing, washing your hands, and wearing a mask. However, what staying healthy has always meant and is still no more important than it has ever is to do the things that promote your overall health. Reed Chiropractic was founded on the 5 components of health spelled out in our 6 weeks to Wellness Challenge. If you want to take control over your physical, mental, and emotional health, as well as boost your immune system to help fight off sickness and disease then start today by downloading our free program. And as always, if you need any specific advice or have any concerns before you start with our suggested working from home health tips you can set up a in office or virtual telemedicine call with one of our doctors and address any specific needs you may need.
