Reed Chiropractic Is Turning 20

It is hard to believe that it has been 20 years since I opened my doors at Reed Chiropractic. Over the last 20 years I have been honored to serve the east valley community and help thousands of patients experience the benefits of chiropractic care. The fact that Reed Chiropractic is turning 20 could only be possible with the support of our loyal patients and community. In this blog post I would like to explain how we started, thank my outstanding staff members along the way, and let you know where we are going for the next 20 years.

The Early Years

I grew up in Arizona where I completed my undergraduate education at the University of Arizona. My chiropractic journey started in the year 2000. After living in the San Francisco Bay Area for 3.5 years and graduating from Life West Chiropractic College, I decided to move back to the warm weather and sunshine. Upon graduating Chiropractic school I was eager to start my own business, but with little money and large student debt, I was not sure that I could afford to go out on my own. I also need to learn more about how to run an office, and of course needed patients to make a living. I came upon an opportunity in Ahwatukee where I could rent a room in an existing chiropractic office. This office was called Tauber Chiropractic. Two brothers owned this office, Dr. Sheldon Tauber and Dr. Scott Tauber. The Taubers were great mentors to me and I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity they game me to start my own practice within their well established office.

During the year and a half that I practiced in Ahwatukee out of Tauber Chiropractic, I spent most weekends out in the community doing spinal screenings and various health fairs, home shows, women’s expos, bridal shows, and farmer’s markets. Basically, I went anywhere and everywhere I could to meet potential patients. With the large number of patients I was able to meet at these events, I was able to fill my schedule, allowing me to outgrow my room at Tauber Chiropractic. With the hope of growing my practice and helping more patients, I found my own office space in Tempe in April 2001. I continued to do spinal screenings around the Phoenix area for the next 10+ years in order to spread the word that chiropractic can help with reducing stress on the spine and nervous system. What I am most proud of is that over these first 10-12 years of doing spinal screenings, we were able to help introduce chiropractic care to many people who had no idea what it was and were living in needless pain. We have been able to hep so many people get their bodies get back into balance, and in many cases, eliminate their chronic pains. A day does not go by where I don’t see a patient come in for their bi-weekly wellness visit that I first met at one of these events. A few patients I would like to recognize that have been coming in for regular wellness visits for the entire 20 years include Chuck I., Dan H., Bonny E, and the Becks, just to name a few.

The Team

Since Reed Chiropractic is Turning 20 this month, I would like to thank and recognize my many team members that have played a vital role in our success. My first team members that help kick off Reed Chiropractic in Tempe were Jessica and Debbie. Jessica worked in the afternoons and Debbie worked the morning shift. They were great assets to the office with their bright smiles and welcoming personalities. Jessica made everyone who entered feel like they were in the right place and Debbie keep the office running smoothly with kind motherly touch. Debbie moved to Santa Barbara, Ca where she still lives and Jessica continued with part time while she was raising a family. After Debbie moved we then brought on Laura as our first full time Chiropractic Assistant. Jessica and Laura were a great team and instrumental in the success of Reed Chiropractic. Laura’s attention to detail and customer service skills allowed the office to run smooth and efficiently. Laura moved to Washington State and Jessica sought out a degree in heath and wellness ultimately becoming a personal chef. They are both doing well and I am always happy to see them from time to time.

Megan was another one of our long term team members. She was very knowledgeable in terms of natural health information. Megan enjoyed helping us educate our patients about natural health and wellness information. Her dedication to the mission of chiropractic, natural health and wellness came through in her work here at Reed Chiropractic. We were sad when she decided to move to Texas. She has since moved back and I enjoy seeing her in the office for her wellness visits.

After Megan, we had a few part-time team members including Emily, Michele and Hannah before Jackie joined our team. Jackie started working in the office at 17 and worked with us through her college years. Jackie was an amazing team member that was able to run the office smoothly efficiently at such a young age. Jackie went on to graduate from dental hygienist school and is now the office manager of a large dental office. That takes us up to our current team, Nicole joined the team in 2017 and and our most recently addition Katie started late in 2019. The special thing about Nicole is that she has been a part of Reed Chiropractic for almost my entire 20 years. Nicole was brought in by her parents when she was only four years old. I met her parents at a home show in 2002 and she has been under chiropractic care since then. In 2017, I asked Nicole if she would consider working at the office as I thought she would be a great fit. She agreed and three years later she continues to grow in her role as Head Chiropractic Assistant and Office Manager. Between Nicole and Katie, we have a great team in place that can help us continue to grow into one of the premier chiropractic offices in the valley.

In addition to the great chiropractic assistants we have had over the last 20 years, we have grown enough to bring on a second full-time Chiropractor. Dr. Hood was first hired in 2012 to fill in for me while I recovered from a shoulder injury. He moved to Idaho for the next 5 years before I begged him to move back. The timing was right and Dr. Hood joined the team again late in 2017. Dr. Hood has helped expand our practice hours and offers another set of hands to deliver exceptional chiropractic care to our community.
